Jacksonville, FL--This past weekend the Suns Volleyball team traveled to Jacksonville to play in the Mack Attack Tournament held at Edward Waters College.
The Suns played 4 matches against 3 NAIA teams and the 2016 USCAA National Champions. The first two matches were Friday against Johnson and Wales of Miami and then Tougaloo College of Mississippi. Friday was a tough day. They did not play well together. They have talent but they have not learned yet exactly how to play together. They lost to Johnson and Wales 13-25, 21-25, 21-25 and Tougaloo College 19-25, 4-25, 21-25.
Saturday looked much better and the Suns started to come together. The first match was against the reigning USCAA National Champions, Florida College. The Suns lost 8-25, 13-25, 16-25, but there were signs of the team coming together. The second match was with the host school, Edward Waters College and the Suns looked good! Summer Parnell and Brittney Rittenhouse began to stand out in the match. The Suns lost the first game 18-25 and then the second 8-25 due to some serve reception issues. They came back and won 25-19 in the third set before losing the fourth set 16-25.
Although they took a beating this weekend it was worth it as they learned a lot. Through the beating this weekend, they did have one player who won all tournament team, that was Summer Parnell.
Head Coach Bill O'Boyle said this after the weekend; "Summer played well and was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Our entire team worked hard. We are playing through some with injuries and a new mixture of talent. Some who are either starting or rotating in but they are fighting hard and pushing through the challenge of just getting to know each other. This will be a fun team to watch and see how far it can go. They are young and still learning!"
The Suns are in action again Tuesday night, August 29th and they will host the same team they just played; the 2016 USCAA National Champions, Florida College. The first serve for the match against the Falcons will be at 7:00 pm.
