This past Friday the Johnson Suns had its first matches of the 2017 volleyball season playing Florida National University and Johnson and Wales University both from the Miami area.
The Suns were thrown for a curve late Thursday night when Samantha Naugler was told she would not be able to compete due to a shoulder issue. The Suns put together a new line up and played without their second setter and outside hitter. The Suns fought hard and improved as the day went along. The Suns fell to a very powerful FNU Conquistadors team losing 10-25, 14-25, 14-25.
The Suns then played Johnson and Wales and lost 14-25 the first game but came back and took the second game 25-20. The third game was a close one, but the Suns lost 23-25. The fourth game the Suns lost momentum and lost the game 7-25. They fought hard throughout the day but just couldn't push through.
Head Coach Bill O'Boyle shared that "The girls looked good and there were aspects of the game that look great. They are strong defensively and improving offensively. They had some first game mistakes that will hopefully not hold them back next matches."
The lady Suns get back to action this weekend as they play in the Mack Attack Tournament in Jacksonville, Florida hosted by Edward Waters College.
